Wireless Quality of Service: Techniques, Standards, and Applications

Wireless Quality of Service: Techniques, Standards, and Applications, 1st Edition
Author(s) : Maode Ma, Mieso K. Denko, Yan Zhang (Editors)
  Focusing on an important and complicated topic in wireless network design, Wireless Quality of Service: Techniques, Standards, and Applications systematically addresses the quality-of-service (QoS) issues found in many types of popular wireless networks.
  In each chapter, the book presents numerous QoS challenges encountered in real-world applications and delineates ways to overcome these obstacles. Some of the challenges explored are performance impairments in WLAN hotspots, video streaming applications, and broadband wireless access. The techniques and mechanisms covered to tackle these problems include medium access and call admission control techniques, a parameter tuning algorithm, the QoS-enabling features of IEEE 802.11e, a Markov chain model, a probe-based distributed admission control mechanism, topology-transparent scheduling protocols, and a novel multicast congestion control mechanism.
  Addressing advanced topics and future directions, the expert contributors acknowledge the need for more research to solve several open issues. In the meantime, they offer innovative solutions to solve current QoS problems.

Wind Energy - The Facts, Author : European Wind Energy Association

Wind Energy - The Facts
   Wind power is often held up as the most accessible and cost effective route to reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and improving our energy independence, yet knowledge of what it offers is often clouded by myths and misunderstandings, which can hamper its adoption.
  This new book, the result of an ambitious project coordinated by the European Wind Energy Association, presents the facts about wind energy. It includes six sections discussing: technology; grid integration; economics of wind; industry and markets; environmental impacts; scenarios and targets.
  Contributions are drawn from nine leading research bodies across Europe, and the material is global in its scope. It is therefore an essential resource and reference for those whose work or study demands an in-depth examination of the subject, and for anyone who wants detailed, accurate and up-to-date information on this key energy source.

Low-Power Design of Nanometer FPGAs, Authors : Hassan Hassan, Mohab Anis

Low-Power Design of Nanometer FPGAs: Architecture and EDA
    Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) have become very popular as embedded components on computing platforms. An FPGA is a viable, reprogrammable design approach that provides a fast time-to-market alternative to Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). Since FPGA implementations can be customized to fit for any application, their versatility leads to performance gains, and enables reuse of expensive silicon. Although high performance can be achieved in FPGAs, their high levels of power consumption pose a critical design challenge.
  This book will be an invaluable reference for researchers and practicing engineers concerned with power-efficient, FPGA design. State-of-the-art power reduction techniques for FPGAs will be described and compared. These techniques will be applied at the circuit, architecture, and electronic design automation levels to describe both the dynamic and leakage power sources and enable strategies for codesign.
* Design perspective on low-power FPGAs...low-power techniques presented at key FPGA design levels for circuits, architectures, and electronic design automation, form critical, "bridge" guidelines for codesign;
* Low-leakage design in FPGAs...comprehensive review of leakage-tolerant techniques empowers designers to minimize power dissipation;
* FPGA power estimation techniques...provides valuable tools for estimating power efficiency/savings of current, low-power FPGA design techniques.

Electric Distribution Systems By Abdelhay A. Sallam

Electric Distribution Systems
   This book provides a comprehensive treatment of electric distribution systems. Few books cover specific topics in more depth and there is hardly any book that deals with the key topics of interest to distribution system engineers. The book introduces these topics from two points of view:
1) The practical point of view by providing practical examples and the problems which can be solved.
2) The academic point of view where the analysis and various techniques used for distribution system planning are explained.
   The most outstanding feature of this book is a combination of practical and academic explanation of its contents. Another outstanding feature is a collection of the traditional and current topics of distribution systems condensed into one book.
The reader will gain an understanding of distribution systems from both practical and academic aspects, will be able to outline and design a distribution system for specific loads, cities, zones, etc.. Readers will also be able to recognize the problems which may occur during the operation of distribution systems and be able to propose solutions for these problems.

Homemade Solar Cells (Author CREATIVE SCIENCE)

    Once you learn this simple technique you can be making as many solar cells as you like! and save yourself thousands of dollars! Cover your entire roof with solar cells, collect the free energy from the sun! Just think, Since you can screen print these cells, size is no limit. Think about it, a 24" homemade cell that could be powerful enough to run a 12 volt dc x 4 amp motor using only one cell! Solar cell screen printing has been around for about 10 years or so and there are many manufactures already doing it here in the USA and abroad.
  There are many different types of chemical printing inks to use and many different screen printing techniques to apply it with. But the best I have seen so far was invented by Japan, They have a very simple technique of vibrating the ink after it is printed to get the air bubbles out of the wet ink before it dries. This causes the efficiency of the solar cells to sky rocket! An ink vibrator is very simple to build using a of qty 2 18" x 18" x 3/4" plywood and a few push springs from your local hardware store and a small dc or ac motor with an off balance on the shaft which you can buy or make yourself. Japan now has a US patent, The patent claims that they can be just as powerful as our American made silicon solar cells!

Engineering Measurements: Methods and Intrinsic Errors

Engineering Measurements: Methods and Intrinsic Errors

   Engineering Measurements – Methods and Intrinsic Errors provides a valuable insight into the equipment and methods generally used in taking measurements, and helps engineers avoid or minimize the inaccuracies that can arise even when using highly accurate instruments. Many of the commonly used measurement methods are described, together with their pitfalls and problems. The authors also incorporate plenty of useful, practical examples.
  Although there are a number of very good texts already available on the subject of engineering measurements, most are quite theoretical and few are written by practising engineers in industry. Those written by industrialists often concentrate only on their specific subject area. There does not appear to be a general text covering theoretical and practical aspects of engineering measurements, and in particular covering the areas of errors and pitfalls associated with taking these measurements. This book is designed to fill the gap, and incorporates knowledge obtained from years of practical experience in industry and R&D by the authors and the various contributors.
   Engineering Measurements – Methods and Intrinsic Errors is highly readable, practical, and comprehensive. Any engineer involved in measurement, whether in manufacturing and process control, development, troubleshooting, or research, will find this guide a helpful everyday tool.
